It is an exciting time in the beauty industry as many makeup companies are shifting from makeup that clogs pores and dries out the skin to products that are healthy for the skin including hydrating and UV protection. As we age, if we are not mindful of the products we are using, we can be harming our skin.

PAUZ founder, Natalie Perkins, reached out to out Samantha Compton, a make up artist well-known in the entertainment industry for over 17 years. She owns her own studio: Shade Makeup Studio where her passion for helping women look and feel their best shines through.

Here are some tips:

  • Look for skincare that makes you feel fresh while hydrating and protecting your skin. Avoid ‘talc’ in any products, as it will dry out your skin and is more likely to clump and sit in wrinkles and creases.
    • Ensure there is an SPF in your foundation
    • Look for foundation that will moisturize the skin. Ingredients such as coenzyme Q-10, vitamin C, vitamin E, Aloe Vera
    • Mineral based foundation is naturally light reflective, it will minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles
    • Concealer in a ‘peachy’ shade can help to cover brown spots. Placing concealer in the inside and outside of eye helps with dark circles in aging skin. Avoid doing the entire under eye socket. Select the same shade as your skin or one shade lighter or darker, depending on how dark your under eye area is.
    • Spray your face with a hydration spray after applying foundation, powder, concealer, and blush. This will help soften lines and give a finished look.
  • Eyebrows are often a sign of perimenopause as the hair can thin in particular at the ends. Eyebrow filler, in particular on the outer edges can add to the look of your eyebrows
  • Women often complain of lipstick bleeding into the creases around the lips. If you use a lip lining pencil first and then fill the lips with lipstick or gloss, this will prevent ‘bleeding’. You can also use a lip stain on its own to prevent bleeding.
  • Have fun! Play around with eyeshadow, pencils, lipstick colors. Step outside of your routine and explore you!
